Musical director: Ciara Murphy
Ciara Murphy is a graduate of the Bachelor and Master’s in Music Education programmes at Trinity College Dublin and TU Dublin Conservatory.
A Sligo native, Ciara began her musical journey at the age of six at the Sligo Academy of Music, studying cello, piano, voice, and music theory, and performing in the Junior and Sinfonietta Orchestras. She was accepted to attend the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin for further studies, before receiving a music scholarship to the Schola Cantorum at St. Finian’s College, Mullingar, where she specialised in organ and liturgical music as part of her formative training.
At university, Ciara became a Choral Scholar with the Trinity College Chapel Choir and studied conducting under Robert Houlihan, Dr Bernie Sherlock, Dr Shane Lynch, and Anna Füri. She has conducted a wide range of ensembles, including Trinity Orchestra, Trinity College Staff Choir and Belgrove Girls’ School Choir, winning first place at the 2024 Feis Ceoil. During her time as conductor of the award-winning Trinity Singers, she led the choir to achieve their highest mark to date at the Derry International Choral Festival, where she was named ‘Most Promising Conductor’ and awarded Sing Ireland’s International Conducting Course scholarship.
Ciara is currently the Irish representative on the European Choral Association’s Youth Committee. She is one of seven young people selected from across Europe for a three-year term, through which she travels extensively throughout Europe to participate in choral festivals, ateliers, and international initiatives promoting youth involvement in choral music.
