Carols by Candlelight December 2025
On Saturday 13 December, Sligo Orpheus Choir was delighted to perform in the beautiful St John’s Cathedral alongside the wonderful Sligo Concert Band for a truly special evening of Christmas music.
Surrounded by candlelight, the concert brought together choral, instrumental, and congregational singing in a warm and joyful celebration of the festive season. We have been truly overwhelmed by the incredibly positive feedback received, and were deeply moved to finish the evening with a standing ovation from our audience.
We are delighted to share that the concert successfully raised funds towards our 50th anniversary commission — a brand-new choral work by Irish composer Laura Shiels, developed in collaboration with Ciara Murphy. This piece will premiere at our Summer Concert 2026 and travel with us on our international tour, forming a lasting musical legacy for future generations of singers.
A heartfelt thank you to our Musical Director and Conductor, Ciara Murphy Ciara Murphy Music @ciaramurphymusic whose vision, dedication, and musical leadership continue to inspire the choir and shape every performance. We are so grateful for her commitment and artistry
We are also sincerely thankful to our sponsors and supporters, whose generosity helps make evenings like this possible and allows live music to thrive in Sligo. Your continued support means a great deal to us.
We would also like to thank our organist for the evening, Charles O’Connor, for his wonderful musicianship and contribution to such a memorable concert.
A special word of thanks to all of Sligo Concert Band Sligo Concert Band for their fantastic contribution and energy to the evening — we hope this is the first of many collaborations to come.
Above all, thank you to the people of Sligo for your warmth, encouragement, and continued support of live music. We look forward to many more performances in the future and to sharing the next chapter of our musical journey with you
