Singing in the rain for Bealtaine
Sligo Orpheus Choir were delighted to be asked to perform in celebration of the first Sunday of the summer, and May, for Ireland’s Age and Opportunity festival, Bealtaine in the morning through our Dawn Chorus event - a long celebrated tradition in Irish history and folklore.
Despite the weather forcing a last minute change of venue from from Queen Maeve Square to The Glass House hotel, we had a wonderful time performing to the hardy souls who came out in the rain and to guests at The Glass House.
The highlight of the event was performing Ola Gjeilo’s piece ‘The Ground’ which is based on a chorale from his work, Sunrise Mass, which our Musical Director and choir were very proud and excited to include in our first Dawn Chorus performance this year!
Thank you to Sligo Arts Service for organising, Sligo County Council for supporting and The Glass House for hosting - @queenmaevesquare we’ll be back sometime soon to perform for you.
